How to Turn an Acorn of Idea Into a Tree of Success

Many of us have had that light bulb moment at least once in our lives, that moment when you are sitting at home watching television or riding the bus when an idea pops into your head that you are sure can be a money spinner. The problem that many of us have is actually turning that idea into something that is successful or even getting it off the ground at all.

We often see people around us who have done exactly this, taken their acorn of an idea and turned it into a success, people like Mark Zuckerberg, Robert Bassam and Richard Branson are perfect example of which footsteps you need to be following in and here is how you can achieve it.

Do Your Research

Whilst it is important that you try to take your innovative product or service to market as soon as possible, in the early stages of your idea you do have the gift of time. This time should be spent doing comprehensive research on the industry which you are heading into, the kind of customers you will have, what customer trends are and where you will fit into the marketplace. Once you have launched your business you will find that you simply don’t have the amount of time you would like to dedicate to this side of things so make sure you prepare yourself in the right way and do plenty of research.

Fine Tune and Test

Whether you are offering a product or service, you should be spending almost all of your time perfecting its design. Try out different materials, different manufacturers, different design styles and different ways of presenting your product until it is flawless. Once you have done this you should be testing it with real customers, offer your BETA product for free to people so that they can put it through its paces and find out if there are any flaws with the product.

Make Connections

Once you have a prototype of your product or service you should start trying to make as many contacts as you possible can in order to create a network for your business. Contacts can include distributers, manufacturers, logistical contacts and clients as well, you could even try to make contacts within your industry, not everyone is your competition. This network will not only help you once you get to market but it could also help you when the time comes to grow your business.

Just Do It

One of the biggest pieces of advice that I can give regarding turning your idea into something fruitful is just to go ahead and do it. We can all procrastinate, suggest that we don’t have the confidence or the knowledge to build on an idea but that is just fear of failure talking and in order to overcome it and make yourself a success, the best course of action is to try, if you fail then you will learn and you will be ready to go again with your next great idea.
